Ban on Hiring Smokers Blasted: Boston Herald
The Boston Herald ran an excellent article yesterday which comments on the recent trend of employers refusing to hire smokers. While not a representative sample, the poll associated with the article is currently showing that a majority of the public (about 70%) agree that this is a form of employment discrimination and therefore, employers should not continue to follow this trend. By showing that not everyone in the public health field supports such policies or believes that they represent a legitimate public health promotion strategy, hopefully this article will help generate more media coverage that educates the public about all sides of this important debate, not just the anti-smoking groups' position. Not everyone in public health thinks the way the anti-smoking groups tend to think.
